About our rodeo photography.

Hello and welcome!

Rodeo photography is a bit of an experiment for us. I have always been interested in photographing rodeo and I recently found out one of our high school photography clients was also a rodeo rider and I jumped at the chance to come out and photograph.

All it took was one September afternoon of shooting - I love it! I liked the families, the animals, the activities ... and the images that resulted are great. So, I decided to come back out and give it a try.

I'm trying two things - portraits and action. If you take a bit of time to go through this website, you will see that we are long time portrait photographers. However, what this particular website does not show, is that we are also sports photographers - that is something I have been doing for about 18 years now. When I photograph sports, I bring all of my experience in portrait photography into play - watching for great moments, expressions and compositions that can really create a great image. Likewise, I bring my sports photography skills to bear in portraits - watching for spontaneous laughs, smiles and looks that are expressive of each persons individuality.

I hope you enjoy the images you find here - if you would like to purchase prints of any, please contact us, I would be happy to help you with any questions you might have regarding our images.

Rodeo Action - Examples

Of course, a rodeo is all about the action.

While we are new to rodeo photography, we have 18 years of sports photography under our belts and have taken to rodeo photography quickly.

Below are a few of the images that are from the first time we ever photographed rodeo, back in September.

Rodeo is a dynamic and beautiful sport - we hope to create many more great action images and will be posting a link to galleries of the images from the rodeos we photograph here shortly.

October 23-25th 2009 - CHRSA Rodeo Portraits

This is the first time that we have setup a portrait studio at a rodeo. This is an experiment of ours - one we hope to repeat in the future, if there is interest!

We got the idea after hanging out with our friends from East Nicolaus. We setup a portrait studio on their farm and had some fun.

That led to me dragging the gear out to a rodeo. Unfortunately, we didn't get the opportunity to photograph a lot of the rodeo competitors - but I had a great time photographing those that we could drag in front of our camera.

I've prepared a few of the images from the weekend for sharing here. Amazingly enough, the cowboys were easier to get in front of my camera than the cowgirls! That may have to do with the fact that the guys knew the ladies we were hanging out with for the day and the guys were pestered into having their pictures taken by the ladies. However, I was a little surprised at how shy the ladies were when it came to having their pictures taken!

After a good amount of pestering and coaxing, these lovely gals allowed us a few moments to photograph them. I'm glad they did and I hope they are too - the images turned out wonderfully!

I ended the day with portraits of Sydney and Katie from East Nicolaus High School. Sydney rides rodeo and Katie is a member of the 'East Nicolaus Rodeo Support Team'. A really beautiful sky developed late in the day and I couldn't resist dragging them over for a picture. Well, to be truthful, you don't really need to do any dragging when it comes to these two having their picture taken!

October 23-25th 2009 - CHRSA Rodeo Action

Well, that was quite a set of images. We have finished going through the images from the rodeo, have broken them into galleries by activity and uploaded them to our site.

We photographed the final day of competition. You can find links below. We hope you like how the images turned out - we do!

If you have any questions about purchasing any of these images, please contact us.
