Childrens Portraits

We think that portraits of children - regardless of their age - can and should be as relaxed and beautiful as any other person. You won't find 'sit up an smile for mommy' portraits here. What you will find is a selection of beautiful, natural portraits.

Watch this space!

Unfortunately, due to the pressures of getting our new site up for our Fall portrait special, we have not yet been able to complete our childrens section.

But we promise to get it online as quickly as possible!

Because kids are just plain fun ...

Welcome to our childrens photography - we hope you like the images as much as we like creating them.

Children present a unique challenge, photographically - often having a complete stranger show up to photograph them is somewhat disconcerting or even frightening. Part of the process of photographing is making sure that children feel safe around us - save enough to be themselves. But, luckily for us, we're just kids in grown up bodies so it usually doesn't take long for us to find some level of agreement and reality with the children we are photographing.

Because our goal is the creation of natural portraits, we don't photograph children in a studio - rather it is all location at home, at the park, etc. However, always remember that however the child reacts to our presence, that is them being themselves in that situation and in that moment, and that is how we will photograph them.

As an example, this is Aedyn. She is a member of the Hall family, but, because she lives half a dozen hours from Sacramento, we don't see her all that often - this was only the third time she had seen Micheal in her young life. She was understandably shy when she first arrived for her visit, but with the assurances of her mother and the friendly environment, she quickly opened up and relaxed ... and then out came the camera!

Seeing as she's a Hall, we think she's as adorable as a little girl can get. :) But, regardless, it's this sort of portrait that we want to create during our childrens sessions.
